Troubleshooting Your Carpet Cleaning Machine

What a carpet cleaning machine does to clean carpets is to agitate the fibers in such carpets so that the debris that gets stuck there is loosened enough to allow for suctioning or sweeping.

When the carpet cleaning machine is still brand new, you will have nothing to worry about; everything works and you are cleaning your carpets like a professional.

But when your carpet cleaning machine is on its fifth year of use, cleaning seems to be not as ideal as it was before.  What could be the problem?

The main and only problem that can occur with your carpet cleaning machine is that there is a loss of suction.  A weak suction will not effectively pull in the loosened debris that you’ve agitated with the brush head.  So you end up with still dirty carpets.

The following list will give you possible reasons why the suction capability gets weaker, and what to do when it happens:

1.  Full carpet cleaning bag–first check the bag; a full bag restricts the airflow that is needed for suctioning to be effective.

2.   Plugged vacuum hose—this also results in losing suction.  When there is something stuck in your carpet cleaning machine hose, there is again a restriction of airflow.  All you need to do is remove the stuck item with your fingers or broom handle and then once the hose is cleared, it can now be reattached to the unit for use again.

3.  Cracked or damaged hose—what is necessary for a very effective vacuum effect is an intact hose without any leak in any segment from the motor to the brush head of the carpet cleaning machine.  If there is damage to the hose in the form of cracks or leaks, then it’s time to replace the hose.

There are available for sale carpet cleaning machine parts such as your hose.  Replace your cracked hose for a brand new hose.  When replacing, try to stick to the original manufacturer so alignment won’t be an issue.

4.  Dirty or plugged filters—rinse off with water or replace with new filter, depending on the type of carpet cleaning machine you’re using.  Read the manual.

5.   Bad motor—it’s yet another wear-and-tear issue.  When this happens, and the motor can no longer be fixed, replacing the motor alone might be too expensive than buying a new one, so considering just looking around for a new carpet cleaning machine.
